A ridiculously over-engineered birthday wish
THE SET-UP
A birthday wish is easy. Making it feel unmistakably Videoland takes a little more effort.
So instead of simply saying happy birthday, the idea was to turn the Videoland universe into one wildly unnecessary celebration.
THE OVERKILL
A giant Rube Goldberg machine built to do one very simple thing: make a birthday cake.
On its way, the machine travels through different Videoland worlds. Mocro Maffia, B&B Vol Liefde, boxing and Expeditie Robinson each inspire their own ridiculous step in the chain reaction, adding another ingredient to the cake along the way.
Miniature sets, practical effects, animation and a whole lot of unnecessary engineering come together in one very elaborate birthday wish.
Because apparently, saying happy birthday was just too easy.

The fire was the only thing we faked. For that one shot, we teamed up with the VFX director responsible for the dragon fire in Game of Thrones.
If you’re going to fake fire, fake it properly.
